How can I join?
To join Ampersand Club please make your application online. We ask you to tell us what you want to get out of the club, and what you can give to the club.
You can also try out Ampersand by coming to our next event.
Can I attend individual events?
Non-members may attend a single event as guest, which acts as a trial to see if the club is right for them. In order to attend further events, they are required to apply for membership.
How much of my time will this require?
There's 6 events per year, each one an afternoon and evening. Outside of that, being in the club means you benefit from people sharing their expertise and network with you, which will save you time. In return, your assistance to others is down to how much time you want to put in.
To say that you'll be spend a 5-10 hours a month networking with and exchanging help with other members sounds about right - although you could make it more or less.
Who else will be in the club?
The short answer is some people like you, and some people not like you. Each member is selected with consideration to the diversity of the group. This means there will be a mix of private and public sector, academics and innovators, marketers and corporate social responsibility advocates, both digital and bricks and mortar businesses, of different genders, ethnicities, world-views… you get the idea.
So you can always expect to meet people who will have contacts that will help you, ideas and resources that will broaden you, and experiences that will inspire you. And this isn’t to speak of the speakers that will join us, all of whom themselves are giving individuals and there to help you.
What is in common is leading individuals, living in the South West, with ideas that could have national and international impact, who agree to bring their network, their expertise, and all their uniqueness to the group.
What does a typical event look like?
What are you looking for in members?
There is no strict membership criteria, but the type of people we are looking for are:
Who is behind Ampersand Club?
Ampersand was started by Scott Gould.
1. Is my membership refundable?
Yes. Everyone hates it when you can’t get a refund. We will refund you for how much time remains in your membership.
2. Can I share my membership?
There is the potential to share membership on a case-by-case basis. Please contact Scott to discuss.
3. What if I miss a day?
Unfortunately, that’s on you. In extreme circumstances, we will be friendly and try to work something out (like extended your membership for free for an extra event).
4. Why is there an application process?
Think of it less of an application process, and more of a check that people aren’t snake oil merchants or draining on the community like a black hole. Ampersand Club is an energising space, and we will protect that, as well as every person in our community. This is also why we charge for the first time that someone attends, as it helps keep the community for those who really do value it.
5. What if I break the code?
We’ll have to ask you to leave. And yes, that includes if you’re not being generous and supportive to others, because that’s the whole point of this club. We’ll refund your membership as per item 1 above. Also, it goes without saying, that discrimination towards sexuality, gender, race, religion, etc, has no place in a place like this and will result in termination of your membership.
6. Can I do business with others in the group?
We certainly hope that you will do as a result of being in the club! Plus, we’re all mature adults, so that’s down to people’s choice whether they do business with you or not. However, our only request is that you aren’t salesy. If a relationship forms and it leads to business, great. However, if you’re trying to force your MLM programme down everyone’s throat over dinner, you can expect to have your membership refunded.
7. What if I or someone else really would benefit from coming, but can’t afford it?
We have plans to offer bursaries on a nomination basis in the future.
